How is a do-it-yourself grate-furnace made?

Sometimes, it is vitally necessary to quickly warm up with a fire, without making a big fire, to heat water or food without the expense of gas or with an acute shortage of firewood, sometimes just need a camping option of a heating-cooking or bonfire element. In this case, the stove-chipper, the survivor, or, in other words, the Bond stove, will save. Such a device will become an assistant both in the campaign and in the country to warm up the kettle or cook food, while not taking up much space when folded, and without requiring as much fuel as a gas burner.

Stove grate

Home-made stove-trowel

It is difficult to find such a design on sale, unlike a burner, so the easiest way to make a stove-grate is do it yourself. First of all, it is worth considering the advantages of this design:

  • The furnace of the grate is a survivor provides good traction. This suggests that any fuel is suitable for a quick kindling of the stove, and at the same time, maximum thermal energy can be obtained.
  • It can be safely ignited in places where it is forbidden to make open fire - after the stove-grate, there are no smoldering coals and no tongues of flame emanating.
  • It fits easily into a backpack because of its compact size.
  • When extreme environmental conditions occur, you can use dry fuel or alcohol from the survival kit to rekindle a stove-grate.

The layout and design features of the camping stove-chippers are such that, when collecting its frame from metal sheets, openings for air access remain below, and air circulation and combustion temperature are increased with the help of a raised bottom above the ground, not exposed to its moisture. The top of the stove is solid, protecting the fire from the wind. They are connected by rods or a metal grid, on which you can put dishes or a kettle.

For ignition of a turbo-furnace, woodchips use: chips, dry small firewood, branches, brushwood, cones, wood bark, dry fuel, including sawdust in briquettes, alcohol.

Do it yourself

To be completely sure of the quality of the stove manufactured, you can pre-sketch the drawings of the future design. A stove of grate can be made from improvised materials, several examples:

Oven from the drum of the washing machine

Old-drum washing machine

With the help of a grinder, a part of stainless metal is cut from an outdated old washing machine. It will take a strip of stainless steel 18-20 cm wide, which will determine the height of the stove. The length of the strip should be 65 cm, from it you need to twist the pipe. On the side, the structure is equipped with an opening with a door, which in the open position serves for laying firewood, and in the closed one directs all the heat up. 5 cm away from the top, it is necessary to make holes for skewers, and provide the upper part with a grill for dishes. A grate with three holes is equipped from below for installing pegs that fix the stove in one position.

Cutlery Stove

In many hardware stores or departments specializing in the sale of dishes, you can find round stands for drying cutlery made of stainless steel, equipped with holes over the entire surface. On the side of the product, it is necessary to mark the place of the cut with a marker for laying firewood inside the structure, then carefully cut this place with a grinder. Four bolts with nuts are screwed to the bottom, which will serve as legs for the stove. You can make a lattice from metal rods by inserting them through the upper holes.

Jar grate stove

Tin can oven

The simplest option with the use of improvised materials is a jar grate. For manufacturing, you will need a regular tin can, along the perimeter of which holes are made for air circulation. Such a miniature design is suitable for heating a mug with water using wood chips or dry fuel.

Folding design

Turbo Chipper

The turbo-stove is made from metal sheets up to 1.5 mm thick. For this, a sketch of the future design is preliminarily made, then applied to a sheet of metal. Bolt holes are cut out on the sheet, the edges are aligned. It should turn out five parts: four side parts and the bottom, as well as additional elements, such as the upper stand for dishes, a firebox, and mounts for installation on the ground. To make the structure easy to fold out, the side parts are fastened with furniture hinges. The bottom is attached using hinges, and the furnace is equipped with a small bolt so that the door does not open spontaneously.

You can improve the design if you give it a pyramidal shape - thus, it will become more stable, and you can add more overall fuel from below. At the same time, traction will improve, and the fire will concentrate under the dishes due to the tapering upper part. As improvised material, you can use unnecessary window or balcony tide. From it you need to cut four trapezoid and one square. Openings for a chimney are cut out in the upper part of the trapezoid, and in one of them - a hole for the door. The square part is also drilled into many holes, then all the elements are connected to each other by piano loops. A square grate-grate is attached to one of the trapezes, and a door to the other. For greater convenience, detailed drawings must be made before making this design.
